BYD unveiled its first-generation Tang at the Beijing Auto Show, offering plug-in hybrid power exclusively.1

  2. 2015

June deliveries, 820 Nm at launch

China deliveries began in June. The entry PHEV used a 2.0 L turbo and two motors: 498 hp, 820 Nm, 4.9 seconds to 100 km/h and an 80 km electric range.1

  3. 2017

Tang 100 adds range and its own badges

A bigger battery stretched electric range from 80 to 100 km. Tang badges replaced BYD emblems on the nose, tail, wheels and steering wheel.13

  4. 2018

Second generation debuts at Auto China

April’s debut brought a new body and cabin, with gasoline, plug-in hybrid and EV versions in the plan.1

  5. 2021

    Norway opens the European door

The AWD EV opened BYD’s European passenger-car campaign in Norway, carrying an 86.4 kWh Blade Battery and a 400 km WLTP combined range.14

  6. 2023

Five Euro NCAP stars, with a caveat

The tested Flagship scored 87% for both adult and child protection. Front occupants’ heads hit each other in one test, where protection was rated poor.156

  7. 2024

European EV grows to 108.8 kWh

The European EV update paired a 108.8 kWh Blade Battery with 530 km WLTP combined range and DC charging up to 170 kW.7

  8. 2026

Third generation: 5 seats and 5,045 mm

The larger five-seat SUV was scheduled for China by year-end: 5,045 mm long, up to 850 km CLTC, and 10–70% charging in 5 minutes.18

How to spot one

Look for

  • Original Tang: 4.9s on the tailgate and 542 badges on the fenders.14
  • Second-generation DM: black roof pillars create a floating-roof look.19
  • 2024 European EV: a full-width rear light bar wraps around into the sides.7
  • Later DM-i: black trim and an aggressive grille; the facelifted EV has a grille-free nose.112

Year by year

  1. 2017: Tang 100

Tang emblems replace BYD logos on the nose, tailgate and wheels.3

  2. 2018: second generation

Large Dragon Face grille and sculpted LED headlights arrive; DM models get black roof pillars for a floating-roof look.19

  3. 2021: DM and DM-i

New front and rear bumpers accompany the DM facelift and the arrival of DM-i.1

Don’t confuse it with

  • BYD S6

Both have RX-like side profiles; the first Tang adds mesh grilles and extra black cladding.1421

  • BYD S7

The original Tang is an S7 offshoot; look for its 542 fender emblems and 4.9s tailgate badge.14

  • Lexus RX (second generation)

The original Tang shares its profile; Tang 100 examples use Tang emblems on the nose, tailgate and wheels.321
