The story

Created for Europe to blend SUV practicality with hatchback handling, the XCeed gained bespoke suspension tuning and front hydraulic rebound stoppers. Designed in Frankfurt, it is built in Zilina, Slovakia.234

    June reveal, September showroom debut

    Based on the third-generation Ceed and tuned by European engineers, the Europe-only crossover was revealed June 26 and reached dealers September 21.25

    Spain gets the plug-in hybrid

    A 1.6 L gas engine, 8.9 kWh battery and six-speed DCT delivered 265 Nm and up to 48 km of WLTP combined electric range.6

    48 V diesel, clutch by wire

    The 1.6 diesel gained 48 V assistance and an iMT manual whose electronically controlled clutch lets the engine shut off while coasting.78

    1.5 T-GDi takes over from the 1.4

    For MY2021, the 1.5 turbo replaced the 1.4: 158 hp and 253 Nm versus 138 hp and 242 Nm. DCT versions gained standard 48 V assistance.9

    This PHEV special was limited to 500 for France, with 18-inch wheels, a 12.3-inch digital cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment screen.3

    120,000 sales and the first GT-line

    July's facelift followed 120,000-plus European sales; September brought GT-line. The pre-facelift car also topped the 2022 Driver Power survey.410

  7. 2026

    Second facelift: twin 12.3-inch screens

    Twin 12.3-inch screens joined revised rear suspension and better noise isolation. Kia scheduled production of the refreshed model for May 29.711

Look for

  • Long hood and a roof falling into a steep fastback tail give it a raised-hatchback silhouette.2
  • Wheelarch and sill cladding frame the raised body, with roof rails above.4
  • Early taillights form slim LED spears that reach forward into the rear shoulders.2
  • Plug-in hybrids have a closed grille and a charging flap on the left front fender.6
