The story

Replacing the Murciélago meant starting over: a clean-sheet V12, carbon-fiber monocoque and pushrod suspension. The Aventador took its name from a Spanish fighting bull that fought in Zaragoza in 1993.13

    The LP 700-4 launches at Geneva for $376,000. By March, orders already exceed a year's production, before customer deliveries begin.4

    Two 6 kg carbon-fiber roof panels lift out. The Roadster adds 50 kg over the coupe; stop-start and cylinder deactivation are standard.167

    The SV coupe uses more carbon fiber to cut weight; its run is capped at 600 cars, with another 500 SV Roadsters.16

    SVJ: 6:44.97 at the Nürburgring

    Marco Mapelli sets a production-car lap record in the SVJ prototype on optional P Zero Trofeo R tires; ALA 2.0 varies downforce and drag.128

    10,000 Aventadors built

    Number 10,000 leaves the line on September 10, more than doubling the originally planned run of 4,000.16

  7. 2021

    Ultimae: 769 hp, just 600 cars

    The final Aventador version raises V12 output to 769 hp, with 350 coupes and 250 Roadsters.19

  8. 2022

    Felicity Ace forces a final restart

    After 15 cars are lost when Felicity Ace burns and sinks, Ultimae production restarts. The Aventador signs off with 11,465 built.110

  1. 2013: LP700-4 Roadster

    The Roadster adds lift-out roof panels, gloss-black A-pillars and an engine cover with two hexagonal windows.17

  2. 2015: Superveloce

    SV adds a fixed carbon-fiber rear wing, revised front splitter and revised rear diffuser.1

  3. 2017: Aventador S

    S gains a larger front splitter, two bumper ducts, a finned black diffuser and three exhaust tips in a triangle.1312

  4. 2018: SVJ coupe

    SVJ brings an omega-shaped rear wing, a hood air outlet and higher exhaust outlets.12

  5. 2019: SVJ Roadster

    The SVJ's aero bodywork reaches the Roadster, which adds a removable two-piece carbon-fiber roof.118
