The story

Under Audi, Lamborghini created a smaller, more usable V10 model to support its V12 flagships. Named for a Spanish fighting-bull breed, the Gallardo became the company's sales leader.456

    The first V10 Lamborghini debuts

    Unveiled at Geneva in March, the Gallardo opened a new junior model line with a 5.0 L V10 and all-wheel drive.245

  2. 2007

    Superleggera sheds 100 kg

    Carbon-fiber panels and seats helped shed 100 kg; revised intake, exhaust and engine software raised output to 523 hp.5

  3. 2008

    LP560-4: 5.2 L and 552 hp

    The direct-injection V10 arrived with 552 hp. The MY2009 LP560-4 recorded 0–60 mph in 3.4 seconds and an 11.4-second quarter-mile in testing.57

  4. 2010

    MY2010: 250 Balboni tributes

    Named for Valentino Balboni, the LP550-2 paired rear-wheel drive and 542 hp with a white-and-gold longitudinal stripe.89

    LP570-4: 562 hp and a Ferrari tie

    The MY2011 Superleggera matched the Ferrari 458 Italia in testing: 0–60 mph in 3.0 seconds and an 11.0-second quarter-mile.510

    150 Super Trofeo Stradales

    The Super Trofeo Stradale brought race-derived hardware to the road, including carbon-fiber seats, a large rear spoiler and six-speed E-gear.11

    Paris brings Edizione Tecnica

    MY2013 brought sharper LP560-4 styling and Edizione Tecnica packages with carbon-ceramic brakes and fixed wings for Superleggera and Performante.12

  8. 2013

    November 25: the last Gallardo

    Production closed at 14,022 cars. The final year also brought the 50-car Squadra Corse, a road-legal take on the Super Trofeo 2013 racer.513

Look for

  • Short nose and a teardrop-shaped windshield set far forward.19
  • Original cars have slim air intakes behind each door and atop the rear fenders.2
  • Early coupes have five rectangular tail vents and high-set taillights.2
  • Doors open on normal side hinges.20
  • LP 560-4: Y-shaped LED headlights and taillights.7

    Callisto wheels became optional on regular Gallardos.2

    Shorter headlights, a reshaped nose and Y-shaped LED lights front and rear separate the LP 560-4 from the original.713

  3. 2012–2013: Edizione Tecnica

    The lightweight models gained a fixed rear wing, carbon-ceramic brakes and contrasting paint on roof arches and front intakes.5

  4. 2013: LP 560-4

    Triangular/trapezoidal front fascia, larger front intakes and 19-inch black Apollo wheels with polished spokes.512
