The story

Created to replace the DB7, the DB9 skipped DB8 to signal a clean-sheet leap and avoid suggesting a V8. Ian Callum shaped the original design; Henrik Fisker refined it for production.23

  1. 2003

DB9 takes the stage at Frankfurt

The DB9 made its public debut in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.2

  2. 2004

    First off the Gaydon line

DB9 coupe production began in January at Gaydon. It was the factory's first model and introduced the bonded-aluminum VH platform.24

  3. 2005

    Volante production begins

Volante production started in February. Its roof folded in 17 seconds; softer springs and lighter anti-roll bars favored relaxed cruising.25

  4. 2006

Sports Pack: 68% stiffer front springs

The coupe-only Sports Pack raised spring rates 68% front and 64% rear, adding revised dampers, a lower ride height and lighter five-spoke wheels.35

  5. 2009

    470 hp and Bilstein dampers

Revised cylinder heads brought 470 hp. Quicker Touchtronic shifts and Bilstein dampers joined a claimed 4.6-second 0–60 mph time with either gearbox.6

  6. 2010

    Reichman facelift, adaptive damping

Marek Reichman revised the nose, sills and lights. Adaptive dampers first offered in the Premium Sports Pack became standard later in the year.25

  7. 2013

510 hp, carbon ceramics, three modes

The 2013 DB9 combined 510 hp and 620 Nm with standard carbon-ceramic brakes and Normal, Sport and Track adaptive damping modes.78

  8. 2015

DB9 GT signs off with 540 hp

The final DB9 iteration delivered 540 hp and 620 Nm, with a claimed 0–60 mph time of 4.4 seconds and a 295 km/h top speed.2

  9. 2016

    The Last of 9 farewell

Q's Last of 9 comprised 9 coupes and 9 Volantes. DB9 production ended in July after approximately 16,500 cars, with the DB11 taking over.4

  • Long, low coupe proportions.4
  • Flush exterior door handles.3
  • Swan-wing doors.2

Year by year

  1. 2008 update / 2009 MY

Revised five-bar grille, thinner mirror stalks and optional 20-spoke wheels; inside is a glass-and-steel ignition key.56

  2. 2010 update / 2011 MY

Triangular outer front intakes, clear taillights and sills swept up before the rear wheels; Double Apex aluminum trim appears inside.2514

  3. 2013

Larger headlights with LED strips, revised fender vents, broader rear haunches and a spoiler integrated into the trunk lid.278

  4. 2015–2016 GT

Ten-spoke 20-inch wheels and GT badges identify the final iteration; Ami II adds touch-sensitive infotainment controls.249

Don’t confuse it with

  • Aston Martin V8/V12 Vantage

The Vantage is the smaller two-seater; the DB9 has a larger 2+2 body.2915

  • Aston Martin Vanquish (2012)

The 2012 Vanquish has more muscular bodywork than the DB9.15
