The story

Built to bring new buyers into Bentley, the 2003 Continental GT paired a 6.0 L twin-turbo W12 with four seats and all-wheel drive. It turned the brand's small-scale craftsmanship into a much bigger business.123

    Crewe builds Bentley's first new Volkswagen-era model. Mass production and a price below half the Continental R's broaden its audience.3

    GT Speed takes Bentley past 322 km/h

    The new 600 hp GT Speed becomes Bentley's first production car to exceed 322 km/h.14

    Second generation, 567 hp W12

    Second-generation deliveries begin in 2011. The 2012-model-year W12 makes 567 hp; only the windshield carries over from the previous body.35

  4. 2012

    V8 joins with cylinder deactivation

    The new 4.0 L twin-turbo V8 brings 500 hp and 660 Nm, and can shut down half its cylinders when their power is unnecessary.3

  5. 2017

    Supersports hits 336 km/h

    The 700 hp W12 Supersports reaches 336 km/h; the planned run is limited to 710 coupes and convertibles.6

  6. 2018

    MSB, dual-clutch and a six-month delay

    The all-new GT adopts MSB, Bentley's first eight-speed dual-clutch and 48-volt anti-roll bars. Its launch was postponed by six months.78

  7. 2019

    10:18.4 production record at Pikes Peak

    The Continental GT takes the production-car record at Pikes Peak; Mulliner follows in 2020 with a planned 15 commemorative cars.9

  8. 2024

    W12 bows out; plug-in V8 takes over

    W12 production ends at Crewe in April. The fourth-generation Continental GT replaces it with a plug-in hybrid V8.1

  9. 2025

    500 rear-drive Supersports announced

    The new rear-drive Supersports drops hybrid hardware and rear seats: a 666 hp V8, under 2000 kg and a planned run of 500.10

How to spot one

Look for

  • Coupe side windows have no center pillar separating the front and rear glass.3
  • Original GT: pronounced fender haunches above both the front and rear wheels.20
  • 2024 and earlier: paired headlights; 2025: single headlamp units on each side.11
  • 2019 W12 GT: oval taillights echo the oval exhaust outlets.8
  • 2019 GT: a fender vent leads into a chrome strip along the door toward the rear wheel.8

  1. 2008 GT / 2009 GTC

    First-generation updates brought a more upright grille, larger lower air intakes and chrome headlight surrounds.3

  2. 2015 facelift

    New bumpers, a more sculpted trunk lid and chrome engine badges; V8s have double-barrel exhausts, W12s large elliptical outlets.15

  3. 2018 / 2019 US

    Oval taillights and matching oval exhaust tips mark the W12; a fender vent extends into a chrome strip down the door.78

  4. 2025 model year

    Single headlamp units replace the paired lights fitted to 2024 and earlier cars.11
