The story

Designed for emerging markets, the original Sandero packed a 320-liter trunk into a 4.02-meter Logan-platform hatch at small-car prices. Brazil got it as a Renault in 2007; Europe as a Dacia in 2008.145

How to spot one

Look for

  • Original Renault design: broad protective strips emphasize the flanks.5
  • Second-generation Stepway: taller stance, gray side skirts and pronounced wheel-arch cladding.1
  • Brazilian 2020 cars: rear lamps extend onto the tailgate, while the headlights have LED guides.17
  • Third-generation Dacia: Y-shaped LED light graphics at both ends.21
  • Dacia's October 2025 update: inverted-T front lights meet a row of white pixel-like grille dots.11

Year by year

  1. 2011 (Brazil)

The first-generation facelift adds a Clio III-inspired nose and Fluence-style rear lettering; Stepway is updated too.4

  2. 2016–2017 (Europe)

Dacia's second-generation facelift brings LED daytime running lights, restyled taillights and different bumpers.116

  3. 2020 (Brazil)

Rear lamps spread onto the tailgate; a new bumper and LED headlight guides update the nose.17

  4. 2020 (Brazil, CVT)

Black plastic wheel-arch moldings identify Sandero versions with the X-Tronic CVT automatic.17

  5. 2020 (Dacia)

The third generation gets a lower roofline and Y-shaped LED graphics front and rear; Stepway adds a domed, ribbed hood.21

  6. October 2025 (Dacia)

Inverted-T light signatures and pixel taillights arrive; Stepway gains white-speckled Starkle protection on arches, lower body and fog-lamp surrounds.11

Don’t confuse it with

  • Dacia Logan II

The second-generation cars share their nose. Sandero has a five-door hatchback body; Logan is the sedan or wagon sibling.112
