The story

Mazda2 aimed to give small-car buyers more cabin space. The export name began in 2002; the 2014 DJ/DL is Mazda2 generation three, Demio generation four. Japan switched to Mazda2 in September 2019.345

    Ikuo Maeda styled the hatch; Shigeo Misuno led the program. Europe claimed a 100 kg cut, versus 65 kg for the better-equipped Australian car.123

    Japan adopted the Mazda2 name in September, ending Demio's four-generation run and aligning the home-market badge with export cars.5

    A separate Toyota Yaris-based Mazda2 Hybrid joined Europe's range alongside the existing Mazda2, using a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine.38
