How to spot one

Look for

  • A roof-mounted snorkel feeds air to the engine.4
  • A huge double-element rear wing sits above a double-element diffuser.2
  • Dihedral doors lift upward; optional windows sit unusually low in the road car's doors.2
  • Two or three high-mounted tailpipes reflect regional exhaust rules rather than a model-year update.18

Year by year

  1. 2018 concept / 2019 GTR

The production GTR moved the concept's side exhausts beneath the rear wing and revised the wing setup and bodywork.212

Don’t confuse it with

  • McLaren 720S

Look for the Senna's square-edged wheel pods, gaping nose ducts and towering active rear wing.3

  • McLaren F1

The standard F1 has a central driving seat and no fixed rear wing.19
