The story

Created to carry seven, Ford Europe's Galaxy spanned 1995–2023. A Volkswagen joint venture became an independent Ford design in 2006, launched alongside the S-MAX; the 2015 generation shared Mondeo architecture.123

    A three-brand MPV from Palmela

    Ford's seven-seater debuted as a joint venture with Volkswagen, sharing its Palmela, Portugal, factory with the Sharan and SEAT Alhambra.1

  2. 2000

    New Edge arrives on the original Galaxy

    An August facelift gave the first-generation Galaxy New Edge body styling and a redesigned dashboard; LX, Zetec and Ghia formed the updated trim range.1

  3. 2006

    Ford goes solo at Genk

    An independent Galaxy launched beside the S-MAX in May. Built at Genk, Belgium, it let all five rear seats fold flat without removal.14

  4. 2008

    2.2 TDCi and E85 Flexifuel join

    A 2.2 L diesel and an E85-capable 2.0 L Flexifuel arrived in March; the second generation's new 2.2 TDCi was rated at 173 hp.15

  5. 2010

    EcoBoost meets PowerShift

    The second-generation update brought a 200 hp 2.0 L EcoBoost; its six-speed PowerShift used two clutches.56

  6. 2015

    Mondeo roots, push-button rear seats

    Built in Valencia on Mondeo-related architecture, the new Galaxy added Integral Link rear suspension, Intelligent AWD and power-operated third-row seats.137

  7. 2021

    Galaxy Hybrid: 187 hp and a CVT

    The 2.5 L full hybrid brought 187 hp, a 1.1 kWh battery and CVT, with rated economy of 6.4–6.5 L/100 km and 0–100 km/h in 10 seconds.89

  8. 2023

    Production ends in April

    The seven-seat Galaxy's run closed in April, ending a Ford of Europe model line that had begun in June 1995.1

Look for

  • Europe's Galaxy is a seven-seat MPV; Galaxie is a sedan. Argentina used Galaxy in 1987–1991.1
  • 2006 generation: angular headlights, a trapezoidal grille and large wheelarches.1
  • 2006 generation: triangular quarter windows sit between the front doors and windshield pillars.10
  • 2015 generation: slim headlights, a high waistline and a lower grille stretching across the front.17
  • 2015 generation: black-outlined taillights merge visually into the rear window above the plate recess.3

    First-generation facelift brings New Edge exterior styling and a redesigned dashboard.1

  2. 2004

    First generation receives revised taillights and a new lower front grille.1

  3. 2006

    The new second generation wears angular headlights, large wheelarches and a trapezoidal grille.1

  4. Mid-2010

    New hood and roof rails; grille bars are chrome, or black with adaptive cruise. LED rear position lights and a body-color lower rear bumper.6

  5. 2015

    A raised grille, slim headlights and a higher waistline identify the all-new third generation.17

  6. 2019 / 2020 model year

    Trim-specific grilles and foglamp details arrive; Titanium gains optional 18-inch, two-tone, 15-spoke alloy designs.114
