The story
Built for Honda's 50th anniversary under chief engineer Shigeru Uehara, the S2000 paired 50:50 balance and double wishbones with a high X-bone frame. Its six-speed manual fed a Torsen limited-slip differential.456

How to spot one
Look for
- Angular bodywork, a long hood and pronounced front fender flares.13
- Two-seat open cockpit with roll hoops behind the seats.11
- Later cars show large, round LED taillights in clear-lens housings.11
- Twin exhaust outlets; oval tips identify the facelift.1318
Year by year
- 2002
A heated glass rear window replaces the plastic screen; chrome rings are added to the taillights.4
- 2004
Deeper bumpers, three-lamp headlights, LED taillights, 17-inch wheels and oval exhaust tips mark the facelift.418
- 2004 US / 2006 Japan
Facelift styling does not prove AP2: Europe keeps the 2.0-liter AP1; the US gets AP2 in 2004, Japan in 2006.2
- 2006 (US)
New alloy wheels and Laguna Blue Pearl paint arrive, along with revised seats and standard headrest speakers.6
