The story

Created to challenge Europe's B-segment and replace the Getz, the i20 evolved into distinct European and Indian models. India's third-generation car is 45 mm shorter to fit a tax bracket.1

    PB arrives at the Paris Motor Show

    The Getz replacement debuts in October. Indian PB gasoline versions span a 79 hp, 114 Nm 1.2-liter and a 99 hp, 139 Nm 1.4-liter.1

    PB gains a hexagonal grille

    India's facelift arrives on March 28; the first generation gains revised headlights and a newly sculpted hood.14

    GB in Europe, Elite i20 in India

    The second generation launches in India in August and Europe in November; production codes split into Turkish GB and Indian IB.1

    Facelift adds a seven-speed DCT

    The second-generation 1.0-liter gasoline engine gains a dual-clutch option, alongside reshaped bumpers, a new grille, tailgate and rear lamps.56

    The June UK launch brings a 1.6-liter turbo, 275 Nm and about 169 hp per metric ton, with no automatic option.39

    Facelift keeps hybrids outside the UK

    The facelift revises both bumpers and wheels. European 48-volt options continue, but the UK drops the mild hybrid.110

    Spain signs off with 250 i20 N COPAs

    The numbered farewell edition adds a brushed-aluminum console plaque and fender badges to Spain's final 250 i20 N cars.11

  9. 2026

    i20 N ends with 100 Shadow Editions

    Production ends in March; Australia's numbered farewell batch gets matte-bronze 18-inch wheels and an unchanged 1.6-liter turbo.12

Look for

  • 2012 facelift: first-generation cars gain a hexagonal grille and a sculpted hood.14
  • 2014 generation: blacked-out roof pillars behind the rear side windows.1
  • Third generation: angular headlights slope down toward a low-set grille.125
  • 2020 Indian generation: Z-shaped LED taillights give the rear a jagged light signature.8
  • Full i20 N: 18-inch wheels and a roof wing; European N Line uses 17-inch alloys.713

  1. 2012 (PB)

    A hexagonal grille, more detailed headlights and sculpted hood arrive; reshaped bumpers add 55 mm to the body.14

  2. 2014 (GB / Elite)

    Black rear roof pillars, wraparound taillights and trapezoidal fog lights distinguish the second generation.1

  3. 2018 (GB / Elite)

    New 'Cascading' grille, bumpers, rear lamps and tailgate; on the Indian Elite, the rear plate moves up from the bumper.16

  4. 2020 (India)

    Angular door surfacing, an upswept shoulder line and Z-shaped LED taillights give the Indian third generation a sharper outline.8

  5. 2023 (Europe)

    The front bumper and grille patterns change, the rear bumper is redesigned, and 16- and 17-inch wheels gain new designs.10
