How to spot one

Look for

  • Mk1: a smooth nose, large headlights and a big grille in the bumper.5
  • Five-door Mk1: rear lamps run from the rear-door edge to the rear window.3
  • Mk2: split-level front lights pair narrow lamps with big, round headlights.412
  • Mk2: vertical LED lights in the front bumper.4
  • Mk2: square, 3D-effect rear lamps and a blacked-out glass tailgate.4

Year by year

  1. January 2009

Rounder headlights, a wide-mouth grille and new wheel covers mark the facelift; Vibe and Rhythm become VT and VTR.38

  2. March 2012

A revised bumper and hood plus LED daytime running lights mark the second facelift; Botticelli Blue joins the paint list.3

  3. 2014

The second generation switches to split-level headlights, black front pillars, square rear lamps and a black glass tailgate.411

  4. April 2018

New chevrons and lettering appear on the glass tailgate; Nude and Bleu Calvi replace Jelly Red and Smalt Blue.29

Don’t confuse it with

  • Peugeot 107

Mk1 C1s differ mainly in front bumper shape and front and rear lights; check the badge, too.317

  • Peugeot 108

On Mk2 cars, look for the C1's split-level lights and black front pillars; the shared side profile can fool you.411

  • Toyota Aygo

    Mk2 Aygo has an X-shaped nose; C1 uses split-level lamps. Mk1 five-door C1 rear lamps reach the rear doors; Aygo's do not.3412
