The story

Created in 1996 to bridge Espace and Twingo, the Mégane Scénic brought three independent rear seats, meal trays and underfloor storage to the compact family MPV. The name returned in 2024 as the fully electric Scenic E-Tech.34

    S.C.E.N.I.C. previews the family MPV

    S.C.E.N.I.C. meant Safety Concept Embodied in a New Innovative Car; its cabin previewed navigation, rear-view cameras and driver-fatigue sensors.45

  2. 1996

    Mégane Scénic launches

    Launched in November 1996, the compact Mégane Scénic won European Car of the Year for 1997.34

  3. 2000

    RX4 adds part-time four-wheel drive

    The RX4 used a Steyr Daimler Puch viscous center differential to add part-time four-wheel drive. Renault built 40,000.4

  4. 2003

    Scénic II ushers in the Grand

    Scénic II arrived in 2003; the longer Grand Scénic followed in April 2004, adding two child-sized seats in the enlarged luggage area.34

  5. 2009

    Scénic III and two rapid facelifts

    The third generation arrived in 2009, gained a new nose in 2012 and was revised again in 2013, when the Extended Grip-equipped Xmod joined.4

  6. 2016

    20-inch wheels across the Scénic IV range

    The R-Space-inspired fourth generation used CMF-CD underpinnings and made 20-inch wheels standard across the range.46

  7. 2022

    The MPV production run winds down

    The short Scénic ended production in July 2022; the fourth-generation MPV's production run continued to 2023.7

  8. 2024

    Electric reinvention wins 329 points

    Scenic E-Tech returned as a full EV and won Car of the Year with 329 points from 59 journalists in 22 countries; range reached 625 km WLTP.124

  9. 2025

    One Pedal and bidirectional charging

    The 2025 update added One Pedal and 11 kW bidirectional AC charging, with a 22 kW option due in summer and Plug & Charge announced.8

Look for

  • Original Mégane Scénic: rounded body with headlights resembling the Mégane 1.1022
  • Scénic II: sharper body lines and raised Mégane lettering on the rear roof pillar.411
  • Scénic III: boomerang rear lamps point inward on Scénic and forward on Grand Scénic.9
  • Scénic IV: 20-inch wheels with narrow tires and a steeply sloped, three-part windshield.6
  • UK techno Comfort Range: flush handles and 19-inch Streamline diamond-cut wheels.212

    New headlights and rear lamps; the name changes to Scénic, with a small Mégane badge retained on the tailgate.410

  2. September 2006

    Scénic II gains a larger diamond, revised grille and headlights, a RENAULT tailgate wordmark and LED rear lamps.423

  3. 2012

    First refresh: new front-end styling; Dynamique adds LED daytime running lights and roof bars.417

  4. 2013

    Scénic III gets another grille and front bumper redesign; the crossover-bodied XMOD appears alongside it.917

  5. 2016

    Scénic IV replaces the previous generation's 17-inch wheels with 20-inch wheels on every version.6
