How to spot one

Look for

  • First-generation liftback: a large rear hatch is hinged at the roof.13
  • Fourth generation: slim headlights and a grille with vertical slats.22

Year by year

  1. 2000 / 2001 model year

First-generation facelift adds clear-lens headlights and fully painted bumpers; LX/GLX/SLX become Classic/Ambiente/Elegance.13

  2. 2009

Second generation gets reshaped headlights, grille and fog lights, larger mirrors and painted side strips; RS and Scout follow in May.14

  3. 2017

Third generation swaps one-piece rectangular headlights for a split, four-lamp face; the lower bumper gains crisp horizontal lines.31619

  4. 2019

New fourth generation has narrower headlights and shallow Combi roof rails; a free-standing center display changes the dashboard.322

  5. 2024

Fourth generation: new grille and bumpers, second-generation Matrix headlights and animated rear indicators; an optional 13-inch screen updates the cabin.9
