How to spot one
Look for
- Low wedge nose with pop-up headlights and no conventional grille.3
- A large glass dome forms the rear hatch.117
- Long hood, long roof and a short front overhang.17
- North American cars: bulky bumpers, round side markers and separate front fog lights.3
Year by year
- Early production
Skinny tires, chrome window detailing and no rear spoiler distinguish the earliest cars.2
- 1981
Side indicators appear on the regular 924.5
- 1981 Turbo Series 2
Series 2 switches from green to white gauge markings; its badge still reads '924 turbo'.318
- 1986
The 924S brings standard telephone-dial alloys while retaining the later 924's body shape.25
Don’t confuse it with
944
Look for the 944's blockier body; a 924S retains the later 924 shape despite its telephone-dial wheels.2
