The story

The F-150 arrived above the F-100 in 1975 to sidestep emissions rules, then replaced it as the entry pickup in 1984. By the 2024 F-150 launch, its wider F-Series family had led US truck sales for 46 years.56

    The first F-150 Raptor uses 2.5-inch FOX internal-bypass dampers and long travel to carry speed across rough terrain.9

    Aluminum body, steel frame

    Aluminum panels over a steel frame cut about 340 kg, creating the first large-scale aluminum-intensive vehicle from an American manufacturer.110

    PowerBoost: hybrid with 7.2-kW outlets

    PowerBoost adds a 47-hp motor between its twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 and 10-speed auto, a 1.5-kWh battery under the bed, and up to 7.2 kW at bed outlets.11

    Lightning turns electric

    The electric Lightning brings 98/131-kWh packs and 452/580 hp, up to 510 km of range, 155-kW rated DC charging and up to 4,500 kg of towing.12

  1. 1978–1979 (Dentside)

    1978 swaps the split grille for one large grille; Custom keeps round lamps. All trims get rectangular lamps in 1979.2

  2. 1982 / 1987

    The Blue Oval replaces FORD hood lettering in 1982; composite headlights arrive for 1987.324

  3. 1992 / 1994 (OBS)

    The 1992 nose rounds off, with larger headlights and turn signals below; a high-mounted brake light appears for 1994.15

  4. 2004

    Two bodies share the 2004 badge: the previous truck is Heritage; redesigned trucks have a three-slot grille and stepped front windows.131723

  5. 2015 / 2018

    2015 pairs a trapezoidal grille with C-shaped headlights; 2018 brings an octagonal, two-bar grille and embossed F-150 tailgate lettering.10

  6. 2024

    The optional Pro Access Tailgate adds a swing-open door; Tremor gets an orange-accented coast-to-coast grille and an optional modular bumper.6
