The story

The original Tipo replaced the Ritmo with more room inside a compact body. The 2015 revival took over from Bravo and Linea, pursuing spacious cabins, low running costs and affordable prices.34

    The 3,958 mm original used a 2,540 mm wheelbase, modular Type Two underpinnings, galvanized panels and a fiberglass tailgate.12

    Italy stops; Brazil and Turkey carry on

    After a 1993 facelift added a three-door version, Italian production ended in summer 1995; Brazil continued to 1997 and Turkey to 2000.1

    155,000 recalled over fire risk

    Brazil recalled about 155,000 Italian imports after power-steering fluid leaks caused fires; the compensation ruling became final in 2019.15

    Tipo returns as the Egea sedan

    The revived Tipo launched as Turkey's Egea sedan from Tofaş in Bursa; the Dodge Neon name followed in Mexico in 2016 and the Middle East in 2017.4

    Hatchback, wagon and a group-test win

    The revival added hatchback and wagon bodies. The 1.6 MultiJet Lounge beat the Skoda Rapid and Citroen C4 in a 2016 group test.46

    Cross and LEDs for the revived Tipo

    The revival's facelift added Cross, LED headlights and a Fiat grille wordmark, with a new gasoline engine for 2021.78

    Hybrid arrives; revival reaches 1 million

    The 1.5 Hybrid paired a 128 hp, 240 Nm engine with a 20 hp, 48-volt motor and seven-speed DCT; Bursa built the revival's millionth car in November.4

  • Original Tipo: a boxy hatchback with broad glass areas and a rounded tailgate.13
  • Turkish-built originals: a small Tofaş logo at the tailgate's lower right.1
  • Revived Tipo: a low, horizontal nose with headlights connected to the grille.4
  • Revived Tipo: a double-bubble roof profile.15
  • Revived sedan: a sculpted trunk lid that mimics a spoiler.4
