The story

Named for Arabica coffee beans, Opel's small SUV challenged the Nissan Juke below the Antara. The original Mokka had Vauxhall and Buick Encore twins and shared its roots with the Chevrolet/Holden Trax.123

    Geneva debut, autumn showroom launch

    The original Mokka debuted at Geneva in March; sales began October 6 in continental Europe and in November in the UK.345

  2. 2014

    Demand adds Zaragoza production

    Strong demand expanded assembly beyond Bupyeong in Incheon, South Korea, to Zaragoza, Spain, during the second half of the year.134

  3. 2015

    Whisper Diesel replaces the 1.7

    The 1.6 CDTi replaced the 1.7 CDTi; its 134 hp version delivered 320 Nm with noticeably less clatter and vibration.16

  4. 2016

    500,000 orders, then Mokka X

    January brought 500,000 firm orders. September's Mokka X added a new dashboard and a 150 hp direct-injection 1.4 turbo with AWD and a six-speed automatic.178

  5. 2019

    Mokka X production stops

    Mokka X production ended in June as Opel switched to PSA platforms; GM Korea kept building the related Buick Encore until 2022.13

  6. 2020

    CMP reboot brings the Mokka-e

    Revealed June 24 on PSA's CMP platform, Mokka B arrived in 2021 with the 50 kWh Mokka-e: 322 km WLTP and up to 80% charge in 30 minutes on DC.19

  7. 2024

    54 kWh for the UK Long Range

    The UK Mokka Electric Long Range added a 54 kWh battery and 154 hp, up from the original Mokka-e's 50 kWh and 134 hp.10

  8. 2024

    Facelift and 48-volt hybrid choice

    The facelift refreshed the badge and lights. In Ireland, the 2025 48-volt Hybrid paired 136 hp with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.111

    GSE: 200 km/h and 5.9 seconds to 100

    The 278 hp GSE became Opel's fastest production EV. Its 345 Nm drove 0–100 km/h in 5.9 seconds; a 2026 test recorded a 32.5 m stop from 100 km/h.112

Look for

  • Original Mokka: oversized headlights, a prominent grille and a mostly unpainted front bumper.4
  • Original Mokka: a sculpted side crease runs above the raw-plastic lower door sills.4
  • Mokka X: wing-shaped grille and double-wing LED light graphics.8
  • Second generation: headlights, grille and lightning badge form the single Vizor face.118
  • Mokka B: model lettering sits in the center of the rear.9

    Mokka X adds a wing-shaped grille, double-wing light graphics and revised bumpers, plus a new dashboard with fewer buttons.18

  3. March 2021

    GS Line gains a gloss-black alternative to its red design stripe, so the red accent no longer identifies every GS Line.9

    Standard GS Line alloy wheels shrink from 18 to 17 inches.9

  5. 2025 facelift

    Revised lightning badge and light graphics; black trim replaces chrome. Inside, a new steering wheel accompanies paired 10-inch screens.111
