The story

Built to replace the Antara, the Grandland X was developed before the PSA takeover. Its Opel-designed exterior and cabin sit on EMP2 underpinnings shared with the Peugeot 3008 and Citroën C5 Aircross.234

    Grandland X makes its world debut in Frankfurt, following Mokka X and Crossland X as the third SUV in Opel's X range.56

    1.6 Turbo gets eight automatic speeds

    July brings an all-aluminum 1.6-liter gasoline turbo with 177 hp and an eight-speed automatic.5

    Irmscher's 100-car Black & White

    Irmscher's Black & White edition pairs revised springs with 20-inch Heli Star wheels; just 100 cars are offered.7

    Hybrid4 orders open

    Opel's first plug-in hybrid opens for orders: Hybrid4 combines 296 hp, 520 Nm and electric AWD with a 13.2 kWh battery beneath the rear seats.15

    Combustion-engine production starts at Eisenach on August 28.5

    Hybrid4 joins the Eisenach line

    Hybrid4 production begins on March 2; claimed figures include up to 59 km of electric range and 1.3–1.4 L/100 km WLTP fuel consumption.15

    Front-drive Hybrid joins the line

    Front-drive Hybrid assembly starts July 21 at Eisenach; Denmark's version claims up to 62 km WLTP electric range and a full charge in under 2 hours at 7.4 kW.58

  8. 2021

    Vizor arrives; the X departs

    The June facelift drops X from the name, adds the Vizor front and Pure Panel cockpit, and introduces pixel headlights with 168 LEDs.29

  9. 2024

    First-generation production ends

    Production ends on November 14 for the first generation, which had begun in 2017.25

  • Original front: chrome wings link the Opel badge to slim headlights with twin-wing LEDs.6
  • Shark-fin-shaped C-pillars create a floating-roof effect in the side view.1718
  • A hood crease and a subtle crescent low on the doors are original Grandland X details.6
  • Facelift cars have a wide, dark Vizor face framing the Opel badge and wing-shaped running lights.29
  • Facelift rear: large Grandland lettering sits centrally on the tailgate with the Opel lightning badge.29

  1. 2018

    Color Line introduced a standard black roof, black mirrors and 18-inch alloys; it became Design Line in July.5

  2. November 2019

    Opel 2020 replaced 120 Jahre and added standard 17-inch Technical Grey wheels, code PXS.5

  3. 2020

    Hybrid4 adds tailgate lettering and an optional black hood, both clues to the all-wheel-drive plug-in.110

  4. 2021 facelift

    The X suffix disappears; the wide grille gives way to the dark Vizor panel, with body-color wheel arches and lower doors.259
