The story

Created for fleets and owners who tow, the F-350 became a dedicated Super Duty for 1999. For 2017, it paired an aluminum body with a stiffer steel frame and new variable-ratio steering.13

  1. 1953

    F-4 becomes F-350

    Ford's new three-digit naming system turns the one-ton F-4 into the F-350.4

  2. 2005

    TowCommand and a Tonka-inspired nose

A new grille, bumper and headlights mark the update; optional TowCommand integrates the trailer brake controller with ABS and the engine computer.1

  3. 2008

    Tonka styling, compound-turbo diesel

The 2008 design grows from the 2002 F-350 Tonka concept; a 350 hp 6.4 L Power Stroke combines compound turbos with common-rail injection.56

  4. 2011

Ford builds its own 6.7 Power Stroke

Ford replaces Navistar power with its own 6.7 L Power Stroke; the pickup version makes 400 hp and 1,085 Nm.7

  5. 2017

    Aluminum body, steel backbone

An aluminum body and bed meet a stiffer steel frame; new variable-ratio steering packages its mechanism inside the steering-wheel hub.3

  6. 2020

    7.3 L gas V8 meets 10 speeds

    A 430 hp 7.3 L gas V8 and 475 hp 6.7 L diesel get 10 speeds; F-350 fifth-wheel towing reaches 14,742 kg versus the F-450's 16,783 kg overall maximum.8

  7. 2020

    Tremor: 35-inch tires and a 2-inch lift

The 7.3 L Tremor Lariat 4x4 short-bed crew cab carries ratings of 2,023 kg payload and 6,804 kg conventional towing.9

  8. 2023

New engines, trailer tech and 5G

    The redesign adds a 6.8 L gas V8 and high-output 6.7 L diesel, available Trailer Navigation and embedded 5G, a first for U.S. pickups.10

How to spot one

Look for

  • 1967–1972 Bumpsides have a raised body crease; 1973–1979 Dentsides replace it with a recessed line.2
  • 1980–1986 Bullnoses have a forward-leaning grille; 1987–1991 Bricknoses have flat, boxy fronts.2
  • 1992–1997 OBS/Aeronose trucks have rounded noses, enlarged headlights and turn signals underneath.211
  • Early Super Dutys have high hoods, low fenders and front side windows that dip toward the mirrors.1
  • The 2023 Super Duty combines C-clamp front lights with long side vents.10

Year by year

  1. 1992

The hood, fenders and grille become rounded; headlights grow, with turn signals positioned below them.11

  2. 2005

Revised grille, front bumper and headlights; 17-inch wheels become standard.1

  3. 2008

A three-bar grille, lower headlights and prominent side vents echo the Tonka concept.5

  4. 2017

Tall C-shaped LED running lights arrive; Platinum adds more exterior chrome.3

  5. 2020

A mild facelift brings different headlights and grilles, plus a revised tailgate applique.8

  6. 2023

C-clamp front lighting, long functional side vents and new bedside steps mark the redesign.1012

Don’t confuse it with

  • Ford F-250 4x4 (1994.5–1997)

Look under the nose: the F-350 uses a solid Dana 60 front axle; the F-250 uses Twin-Traction Beam.711
