The story

Built for European city life, the Aygo X replaced the Aygo hatchback with a crossover on a shortened GA-B platform. Designed and developed entirely in Europe, it launched in 2022.234

    The March 17 concept came from ED2 in France, where Ken Billes was assistant chief designer and Lance Scott design director.35

    GA-B crossover replaces the hatchback

    The November 5 production-car reveal brought a shortened GA-B platform and a 3,700 x 1,740 x 1,525 mm body, replacing the Aygo hatchback.23

    Kolin starts Aygo X production

    Production began in March; the first buyers received their keys on April 12. Toyota invested over €180 million to prepare the plant for Aygo X and Yaris.6

    The JBL special edition combined 300W audio and a 200 mm subwoofer with Jasmine Silver/black paint and JBL logos on its rear window panel and seats.9

    Europe's first A-segment full hybrid used a 1.5 L engine and a 76 mm longer front overhang; longitudinal battery packaging kept the 231-liter trunk.1

    Hybrid production began at TMMCZ on November 13. By December, Aygo X held 20% of its European segment in year-to-date sales.4

    GR Sport enters the Copa Kobe ECO

    The Hybrid GR Sport became the Copa Kobe ECO's one-make car; Jorge Prado and Jesús Valenzuela won the season opener in Castellón de la Plana.10

How to spot one

Look for

  • Raised city-car stance, bulky wheel-arch trim and unusually large 17- or 18-inch wheels.15
  • Two-tone versions have a black roof and rear body section.2
  • Very short rear doors are shaped around the large wheel arches.20
  • Rear side windows hinge outward rather than winding down.12
  • A glass tailgate closes off the compact rear.16
