The story

Conceived in 1955 as a GAZ-69 replacement, the 469 answered military demands for field repairs and a flat floor for decontamination. Geared army axles delivered 300 mm of clearance.456

    GAZ-69 replacement work begins

    Work begins on a GAZ-69 successor. Early plans explore a rear engine before a front-engine layout and military testing shape the design.4

  2. 1972

    15 December: GAZ-69 gives way

    UAZ switches from GAZ-69 to 469 assembly in one day without stopping the line. At home, cars go to state users; private retail sales are barred.7

  3. 1985

    469 becomes 3151; 469B becomes 31512

    New designations accompany dual-circuit brakes, improved heating and a modernized drivetrain: military 469 becomes 3151, civilian 469B becomes 31512.8

  4. 2003

    Hunter production starts on 19 November

    Hunter offers a 16-valve, injected ZMZ-409 that requires frame changes. A ZMZ diesel joins the gasoline engine lineup in late 2005.9

  5. 2010

    469 returns as the 315196

    The Hunter-based revival uses a 4-speed gearbox, front coils, disc brakes and power steering; its 5,000-car allocation is exhausted by January 2011.1011

  6. 2017

    469 numbered anniversary Hunters

    A 45th-anniversary run of 469 Hunters gets green, black and white paint, individually numbered plaques and a tailgate that doubles as a camping table.19

  7. 2019

    Hunter becomes the UAZ-2924 truck

    Truck certification brings the 2924 code and standard ABS. The new Expedition pairs a winch and rear diff lock with 241 mm of ground clearance.1213

  8. 2022

    50 cars for the 50th anniversary

    Just 50 anniversary 469s are offered directly by the factory, with a soft top, folding rear benches, matte-black Raptor coating, a winch and snorkel.1415

  9. 2024

    ZMZ Pro brings 148 hp and 235 Nm

    The November ZMZ Pro upgrade takes Hunter from about 111 to 148 hp and from 198 to 235 Nm.916

    Amber front and rear turn signals and repeaters on the hood sides replace the earlier lighting.10

    3151 gains a one-piece windshield, two-section front marker lamps, three-section tail lamps and suspended clutch and brake pedals.810

    Hunter adds black riveted window frames, sliding side windows, plastic grille trim and a single side-hinged rear door.89
