The story

Created to take SEAT into the SUV market, the Ateca is named after a village west of Saragossa in the brand's place-name tradition. It shares Volkswagen Group MQB architecture and Škoda's Kvasiny factory in the Czech Republic with the Karoq.14

    Unveiled in Barcelona on March 1, the Ateca reached UK roads in September with 1.0/1.4 TSI petrol and 1.6/2.0 TDI diesel engines.145

    Five Euro NCAP stars

    The European Ateca earned five stars: 93% adult, 84% child, 71% pedestrian and 60% safety assist. City and interurban AEB was fitted.46

    148 hp 1.5 TSI Evo joins the range

    The 148 hp 1.5 TSI Evo joined the range in August. The 1.5 EcoTSI used cylinder deactivation, with six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG.57

    CUPRA's first standalone model

    The 296 hp, 400 Nm 2.0 TSI brought 4Drive, seven-speed DSG and standard adaptive suspension with dynamic chassis control.48

    1,999 CUPRA Limited Editions

    The planned run paired copper 20-inch wheels, carbon-fiber details and Brembo brakes with an Akrapovic titanium exhaust that saved 7 kg.9

    Facelift brings Miller-cycle petrol

    The 108 hp 1.0-liter petrol used Miller-cycle combustion and a variable-geometry turbo. 2.0 TDIs replaced the 1.6; Xperience replaced Xcellence.1011

    Twin-test win over the C5 Aircross

    The 148 hp 1.5 TSI DSG Xperience won with sharper handling. Ateca trunks held 510 liters, or 485 in four-wheel-drive versions.512

    CUPRA adds 148 hp and 187 hp options

    CUPRA added a front-wheel-drive 148 hp 1.5 TSI and a 4Drive 187 hp 2.0 TSI. Both used seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions.23

    2016–2026 production run ends

    Ateca production spanned 2016–2026. The CUPRA Ateca's successor was the CUPRA Terramar.4
