The story

Named for Alaska’s Kodiak bear, the original Kodiaq launched Škoda’s SUV expansion with MQB underpinnings and the brand’s first optional third row.234

    The September 1 reveal starts Škoda’s SUV expansion; MQB underpinnings package up to seven seats into a 4.70 m body.45

    Deliveries begin in February. The five-seater holds 720–2,065 liters; TDI/DSG/4×4 versions can tow up to 2,500 kg.246

    Sabine Schmitz sets the seven-seat SUV record with developer František Drábek aboard. The original RS uses a biturbo diesel with 500 Nm.178

    RS swaps biturbo diesel for gasoline

    The RS switches to a 242 hp 2.0 TSI: over 60 kg saved at the engine, 5.2 kg at the DSG, and 0–100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.19

    Second generation moves to MQB Evo

    Unveiled October 4 on MQB Evo: 4,758 mm long, 910 liters in the five-seater or 340 with all seven seats up. Kvasiny production starts January 2024.210

    The millionth car, a velvet red Sportline, becomes the Australian Car-chibald Prize: young artists compete by drawing an imagined road trip.11

Look for

  • Original Kodiaq: a four-eyed nose, with narrow headlights flowing into a wide grille.4
  • First generation: angular wheel arches, short overhangs and a roofline visually extended into the D-pillar.420
  • First generation: C-shaped LED taillights.4
  • Second generation with Matrix LEDs: stacked lamps flank a thin Flying Arrow-shaped daytime light.17
  • Second generation: wide C-shaped taillights extend into the tailgate; some have a connecting red strip.17

    Tailgate lettering replaces the Škoda emblem on first-generation cars.5

    Higher hood, a more upright six-sided grille and shallower headlights; LED lamps become standard.223
