The story

Developed in left- and right-hand drive for global markets, the C5 was Omoda's first model after its 2022 founding. Its name combines oxygen and modern, chosen from over 10,000 proposals across more than 30 countries.123

    Guangzhou debut for Art in Motion

    November's Auto Guangzhou debut introduces the Omoda 5 and Chery's Art in Motion design language, led by a diamond-matrix grille.1

  2. 2022

    Project X-C enters production

    Production begins in February for project X-C, model code T34. The C5 is the first model of Omoda, established in 2022.12

  3. 2023

    Chery returns to Australia

    The Omoda 5 launches in March as BX and EX 1.5-liter turbos, Chery's first Australian model after 7 years away.1

  4. 2023

    E5 unveiled at Auto Shanghai

    April brings the electric E5, pairing a 201 hp motor with a 61 kWh battery and a redesigned front end.1

  5. 2024

    E5 sales begin in Indonesia

    Indonesia gets the first E5 sales in February. Australia's 201 hp, 340 Nm version follows in September with up to 430 km of WLTP range.14

    Australia gets C5, DCT and multi-link

    Australia's Omoda 5 becomes Chery C5 with a six-speed DCT and multi-link rear suspension; Malaysia's facelift takes the Chery O5 name in September.15

    SHS-H adds a 1.83 kWh hybrid battery

    October's SHS-H adds a 1.5-liter turbo and 1.83 kWh battery. UK economy is 5.4 L/100 km claimed; a road test returns 6.4 L/100 km.6

    Thailand's Max+ gets the Robo Shark nose

    Thailand's Max+ facelift shrinks its battery from 61 to 50.6 kWh and lifts DC charging from 80 to 110 kW, beneath a sharp Robo Shark nose.7

  9. 2026

    UK E5 lifts DC charging to 130 kW

    The revised UK E5 makes 211 hp. Its maximum DC charging rate rises from the original 80 kW to 130 kW.8

  • Original petrol nose: a diamond-pattern grille flows into split headlights.717
  • Original front lighting pairs slim T-shaped running lights with upright headlights.3
  • The sloping roof rests on dark pillars for a floating-roof effect.3
  • The original rear has stacked spoilers and sharp, multi-LED X-Wing lights.3
  • Original E5 has a bluff nose where the petrol model has a perforated grille.17

    Comfort becomes Knight; Noble gains 19-inch wheels and roof rails. A new dashboard and column shifter update the cabin.1

  4. 2026 second facelift cabin

    A two-spoke steering wheel, separate 15.6-inch touchscreen and 8.8-inch instrument panel replace the earlier twin-screen layout.7
