How to spot one

Look for

  • Type 280: a sharply rectangular body, offered with two roof heights.3
  • The 1994 design has flush windows, wraparound bumpers and a smooth hood without air intakes.4
  • Large mirrors have a distinct wide-angle lower section on 2014–2021 models.10
  • The 2024 facelift puts a large Fiat badge in the grille.914

Year by year

  1. 1983

The grille gains stronger edges around the lights and Fiat's five chrome bars in the center.2

  2. 1990

Slimmer grille and badge, white turn-signal lenses beside the headlights, larger twin-arm mirrors and fixed triangular quarterlights.2

  3. 1994

Angular bodywork gives way to rounder lines; windows sit flush and wraparound bumpers follow the body.34

  4. February 2002

Revised front grille, plus new protective moldings on the rear and sides.1

  5. 2022 (Series 8)

New front styling and fresh Fiat badging on the nose mark the Series 8 update.78

  6. 2024

Fresh front styling brings a grille with a large Fiat badge; the rear remains hard to distinguish from earlier vans.914

Don’t confuse it with

  • Citroën C25

The earliest C25s have low-set oval headlights; the 1983 Ducato grille has five chrome Fiat bars.2

  • Peugeot Boxer

Closely related bodywork; on the latest facelift, identify the Ducato by its large Fiat badge in the grille.9

  • Ram ProMaster

US-market sibling; the latest Ducato identifies itself with a large Fiat badge in the grille.9
