    US base cars get a 235-hp 3.2 L six and six-speed auto; a test finds weak highway urge and clocks 9.1 seconds to 60 mph.17

    SPA revealed; XC Classic lives on

    Swedish first-generation production ends; XC Classic continues in Daqing. SPA debuts in Stockholm; 1,927 First Editions sell online in 47 hours.18

  5. 2015

    400 hp and an electric rear axle

    The new T8 Twin Engine pairs a twincharged 2.0 L four-cylinder with electric rear drive: 400 hp, 640 Nm and an eight-speed automatic.19

  6. 2016

    Polestar gives the T8 421 hp

    Developed with racer Thed Björk, T8 optimization brings 421 hp, 680 Nm and a claimed 5.5-second 0–100 km/h run, plus gear hold in hard cornering.10

  7. 2022

    T8 gains 55 hp and a bigger battery

    Now at 455 hp, the T8 tests at 4.5 seconds to 60 mph (1-ft rollout excluded) and covers 29 electric miles at 121 km/h.11

  8. 2023

    B5/B6 mild hybrids replace T5/T6

    B5 and B6 replace T5 and T6; B6 makes 295 hp. Every 2023 XC90 gets AWD and an eight-speed automatic.412

  9. 2026

    Long-range plug-in hybrid announced

    On September 15, Volvo announces an XC90 plug-in hybrid with up to 99 electric miles; the preliminary claim uses WLTP testing standards.13
