How to spot one

Look for

  • 4W60: Willys Jeep-like shape with a pressed-steel Nissan badge in the grille.6
  • Y60: boxy body and pronounced blister fenders.925
  • GU: sleeker bodywork than the boxy GQ.15
  • Y62: huge D-pillars and a single upward-opening rear door.26
  • Y63: double-C headlights, a broad V-motion grille and a full-width rear light bar.1316

Year by year

  1. 1983 (160 Series)

Round headlights give way to rectangles, and a high-roof body is added.17

  2. 1989 (Spanish 260)

The Spanish 260 revises lamps and tailgate; later cars adopt a Y60-style grille.617

  3. 2005 (GU)

Exterior panels change; ST and Ti get 17-inch wheels, while the cabin gains a new dashboard and instrument cluster.18

  4. 2020 (Y62)

A V-motion grille and boomerang-shaped LED lights at both ends identify the facelift revealed in 2019.12

  5. 2024 (Australia)

A 10.1-inch center touchscreen brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the Australian V8 cabin.12

  6. 2025 (Australia)

The center screen grows to 12.3 inches, with a 7.0-inch instrument display; Ti-L adds a digital rearview mirror.12

Don’t confuse it with

  • Ford Maverick

Check the Ford name: Australia's Maverick is a rebadged GQ Patrol, available with short or long wheelbases.15

  • Nissan Safari / Ebro Patrol

Safari badges use the Japanese Patrol name; Ebro Patrol was a name used in Spain and other European markets.6

  • Nissan Armada

Look for the Armada name: this is the Patrol's North American counterpart, offered there from the 2017 model year.6
