The story

The D21 replaced the 720 with a more car-like cab. Navara also became Frontier or NP300 by market; the D23 later courted family and recreational buyers with optional coil-sprung rear suspension.234

    Replacing the 720, the D21 wears Navara badges in Australia and New Zealand. Its King Cab is styled in the United States with a distinct front end.3

  2. 1997

    D22 arrives with QD32 diesel power

    The compact D22 begins production with a 3.2 L QD32 diesel among its engines, producing 101 hp.3

  3. 2004

    D40 grows; D22 keeps its work boots

    The larger D40 debuts on the F-Alpha platform. The D22 stays in production as its cheaper, work-focused alternative.35

  4. 2010

    D40 diesel V6 delivers 550 Nm

    Europe gains a 3.0 L V6 diesel with 228 hp and 550 Nm. The new flagship can tow a 3,000 kg braked trailer.36

    D23 debuts with a 450 Nm diesel

    The international D23 offers a 2.5 L diesel. Optional coil-sprung, five-link rear suspension courts private buyers using pickups for family and recreation.347

    Trek-1°: 1,500 for Europe

    Based on the Tekna Double Cab, Trek-1° adds black 18-inch wheels, spot lamps and a bed cover; buyers choose Pearlescent White or Black Metallic.8

    The entry diesel gains a second turbo and 425 Nm. Rear discs replace drums, and five-link suspension reaches the King Cab.9

  • D40: body styling echoes the full-size Nissan Titan pickup.3

    The intercooler's hood scoop is the giveaway; ST-R dual cabs also gained a sports bar and side steps.5

  3. 2010 (Europe)

    New hood, grille and rounder bumper; mirror indicators and puddle lights appear. V6 badges sit near the front of each front door.6

  4. 2019 (Europe)

    Lower grades swap 16-inch wheels for 17s; upper grades gain gloss-black headlight inners instead of chrome.9

  5. November 2020 unveiling
