The story

The W166 M-Class became GLE in 2015 to identify it as the E-Class's SUV counterpart. The V167 unveiled in 2018 brought MBUX and an optional third row.234

    W166 M-Class becomes GLE

    A facelift gives the W166 M-Class its GLE name, aligning it with the E-Class. Production consolidates near Vance, Alabama.2

    GLE63 S: 3.8 seconds to 60 mph

    Instrumented tests clock the GLE400 at 5.5 seconds to 60 mph and the 577-hp GLE63 S at 3.8 seconds.56

  • V167 SUV: upright octagonal grille, two hood bulges and a broad C-pillar.34

    The W166's GLE rename brought a sleeker nose, headlights sweeping into the fenders, new taillights and a revised rear bumper.61123

  2. 2019 / 2020 model year

    The new SUV has two-part taillights, hood bulges and black wheel-arch cladding; its wheelbase grows by 80 mm.39

  3. 2024

    The SUV gets a new bumper and two chrome-accented horizontal grille bars; each taillight shows two horizontal light blocks.10

  4. 2024 AMG

    New running-light and taillight designs, an AMG hood emblem and a reshaped GLE 53 bumper bring the 53 visually closer to the 63 S.13

  5. March 2026

    Twin star motifs appear inside each headlamp; the larger grille gains an illuminated central star and optional outline lighting.1

  6. March 2026 AMG

    The GLE 53 HYBRID receives a revised AMG grille, new front intakes and star-pattern taillights.17
