The story

The N293 opened Mercedes-Benz's EQ family in 2019 on GLC-derived foundations. The EQC 400 combined an 80 kWh battery, a 500 L cargo bay and 1,800 kg braked towing. Production ended in 2023.12

    Board approval in April

    The board approved production in April 2015. The road to market took about four years of development.3

    First prototype built in June

    June 2017 brought the first prototype. The eventual test program comprised 500 individual checks, about 35% digital.34

    Michael Kelz confronts winter range

    Development chief Michael Kelz put the EQC 400's below-freezing range at 261–270 km and treated the loss as an unavoidable effect of physics.5

    Five stars despite a broken door hinge

    The EQC 400 4MATIC earned five Euro NCAP stars and 96% adult protection, but a broken rear-door hinge in the side-pole test brought a penalty.16

    335 km in the ADAC Ecotest

    The EQC 400 AMG Line achieved 335 km versus the maker's 471 km claim, consuming 27.6 kWh/100 km including charging losses.7

    11 kW AC charger arrives

    The December 2020-on EQC 400 4MATIC had 11 kW AC charging, replacing the original 7.4 kW setup; DC remained rated at 110 kW.127
