The story

Jaguar's 2007 S-Type replacement broke with retro styling. Ian Callum's XF added a startup ritual: its gear dial rose from the console while the dashboard vents rotated open.23

    C-XF concept to X250 production

    January's C-XF preview led to the XF's Frankfurt debut. X250 production began that November and ran through June 2015.2

    Auto Express Car of the Year

    The original XF won the magazine's overall Car of the Year award.24

  3. 2011

    Facelift, eight speeds, decade award

    The facelift paired C-XF-inspired styling with a 2.2-liter diesel and eight-speed automatic. Auto Express readers voted the XF Car of the Decade.24

  4. 2012

    Sportbrake; eight-speed autos across range

    Sportbrake added a wagon with 2.2- and 3.0-liter diesels; the sedan and wagon made an eight-speed automatic standard across their engine ranges.25

  5. 2013

    US XFR-S: 550 hp and 300 km/h

    Summer sales brought the supercharged V8 flagship, with just 100 sedans allocated to the US for model year 2014.6

  6. 2015

    X260: aluminum, up to 190 kg lighter

    The second generation debuted in New York. Aluminum-intensive construction saved up to 190 kg, while rear passengers gained 15 mm of legroom.78

  7. 2018

    US Sportbrake S: 380 hp, AWD

    Instrumented testing put the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 wagon at 5.0 seconds to 60 mph and 13.6 seconds for the quarter-mile.79

  8. 2020

    48-volt diesel and a new cockpit

    An overhauled cabin introduced an 11.4-inch Pivi Pro screen. The new 2.0-liter diesel added a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and made 201 hp.10

  9. 2024

    X260 production ends

    The second-generation XF's 2015–2024 run ended in mid-2024.7

  • X260: J-Blade LED daytime running lights in the headlights.78
  • X260: taillights repeat a line-through-circle motif, with a chrome strip between the clusters.78
  • Second-generation sedan: extra side windows sit in the pillars behind the rear doors.823
