The story

Named after a 2003 concept, the Insignia replaced both Vectra and Signum. Its second generation, the 2017 Grand Sport, grew larger and aimed upmarket while shedding up to 175 kg.3456

How to spot one

Look for

  • Mk1: an arched roof flows into a shallow rear window and a high tail.79
  • Mk2: slim headlights flank a low-mounted, upright grille.45
  • Mk2: a deep lower-door crease sweeps upward just ahead of the rear wheel.45
  • Mk2: split taillights and an LED third brake light at the top of the rear glass.45

Year by year

  1. 2013 (Mk1 exterior)

    The grille grows, LED headlights change and hatchbacks gain a thicker chrome link between the taillights.79

  2. 2013 (Mk1 cabin)

    A cleaner touchscreen center console replaces the button-heavy layout; navigation-equipped cars also have a touchpad.79

  3. 2017 (Mk2 launch)

    The replacement has a lower roof, slim headlights and a grille mounted lower and more upright.45

  4. 2020 (Mk2 facelift)

    Slimmer headlights, extra grille chrome and moved front foglights; the rear bumper gains exhaust trims.48

  5. By 2021

    The estate disappears from the Vauxhall range, leaving the five-door liftback as the only body style.13
