Developed from a 1973 brief for a modern Estafette replacement with a 1,000 kg payload, the Trafic spans work and leisure: the 2021 Grand SpaceClass with Escapade pack seats 7 and sleeps 2.23

    An Estafette successor from a 1973 brief

    The Trafic goes on sale in September, fulfilling a brief for a modern Estafette replacement with a 1,000 kg payload.2

  2. 2001

    Trafic II joins the Vivaro/Primastar family

    The second generation enters production with Opel/Vauxhall Vivaro and Nissan Primastar siblings, then earns the 2002 Van of the Year title.456

  3. 2004

    Combi, Passenger, then Generation

    Long-wheelbase Combi arrives in 2002, Passenger in 2003 and Generation in 2004; Generation adds rail-mounted seats and a rear bench that becomes a bed.4

  4. 2014

    Trafic III returns to France

    Combi launches with 1.6 dCi 90/115 single-turbo and 120/140 twin-turbo versions; Trafic III production returns to Sandouville, France.78

    2.0 dCi and dual-clutch EDC arrive

    The passenger range gains 2.0 dCi engines, SCR/AdBlue emissions control and optional dual-clutch EDC for the 145 and 170 versions.9

How to spot one

Look for

  • First generation: a short hood and large windshield lie at the same angle.45
  • Second generation: a bubble over the cab, teardrop headlights and strongly shaped wheel arches.45
  • Later third-generation models: a squared-off nose with C-shaped daytime running lights.523
  • 2014 Combi: side glazing and glazed rear doors distinguish the passenger body from the panel van.7

Year by year

  1. 1989

    Trafic I gets a sloping grille aligned with the hood, integrated lamps and indicators, plus a rounder plastic-bumper nose.25

  2. 1994

    Trafic I gains a partly body-colored grille and red/black taillights; the cab is revised.2414

  3. 2006

    Trafic II gets integrated front indicators, a Mégane-style grille, a shallow-V lower intake, clear-look taillights and a beefier rear bumper.11

  4. 2019

    Trafic III gains a reshaped hood, more upright chrome-detailed grille and C-shaped LED lighting; cabin trim and the shifter are revised.9

  5. 2021 passengers; 2022 vans

    Passenger versions receive a new front end and Black Titane dash in 2021; the van gets its revised nose and dashboard in 2022.1224

  6. 2024 / 2026

    Trafic III gets the new Renault logo in 2024; diesel versions add 17-inch steel wheels and a 10-inch touchscreen in 2026.510
