The story

Using the GLA's MFA2 platform, the H243 EQA arrived in January 2021 as Mercedes-EQ's electric entry point. Its battery raised the rear floor and left a 340-liter trunk, about 100 liters smaller than the GLA's.134

    January 20: EQA 250 debuts

    The front-drive EQA 250 starts with an asynchronous motor, 188 hp and a 66.5 kWh battery; charging peaks at 11 kW AC or 100 kW DC.5

    Production begins in February, with assembly in Rastatt, Germany. Beijing Benz in China starts building the EQA in November.1

    EQA 300 and 350 4MATIC add a rear permanent-magnet motor; power sharing is managed 100 times per second, and both can tow 1,800 kg.2

    Published July 7, the five-star Euro NCAP rating adds EQA checks to B-Class tests from 2019. It expires on January 1, 2026.67

    The original 66.5 kWh EQA 250 covers 350 km in ADAC testing; measured energy use including charging losses is 21.6 kWh/100 km.8

    A 70.5 kWh battery and permanent-magnet motor bring 540 km WLTP. Charging takes 7h45m at 11 kW AC or 35 minutes for 10–80% DC; braked towing is 750 kg.19

    Star-pattern facelift, Plug & Charge

    Revealed in August, the refresh brings a star-pattern front panel, a new steering wheel and Plug & Charge, with European arrival set for early 2024.110

    Mercedes calls it the first public EV-to-EV crash: EQA and EQS SUV collide at 56 km/h each with 50% overlap. Passenger cells and batteries remain intact.11
