The story

Born in Thailand for global markets, PCX combined a premium ASEAN brief with affordable commuting for Japan, Europe and the U.S. A shared frame and engine design supported the plan; its 125cc debut brought the ACG starter to that class.13

How to spot one

Look for

  • Compact maxi-scooter shape, with a raised center spine instead of a flat floorboard.1423
  • Earlier generations leave the chrome handlebars exposed.10
  • Fold-out rear footpegs tuck into the body.14
  • 2022 PCX160: V-shaped headlight signature and a small, nonadjustable windscreen.13

  1. 2011/2013 (US)

    Small seat-backrest hump; the black side panels have upper edges that slope upward.14

  2. 2014 / 2015 US

    LEDs arrive; US models lose the seat hump, with downward-sloping black side panels and a radiator vent reaching almost to the side pegs.214

  3. 2018 / 2019 US

    Headlights resemble four eyes; US models have a body-color slash across the lamps and smaller black side panels with a brushed metal accent.1416

  4. 2021 (Japan/US)

    Rear wheel shrinks to 13 inches; Japan gets a rear disc, while US PCX and PCX ABS both keep the rear drum.81223

  5. 2025 (Europe)

    Handlebar covers replace the exposed chrome finish; the front lighting changes to a slimmer V-shaped signature.910

  6. 2025 (Europe)

    A 220 mm rear disc replaces the drum; DX adds reservoir rear shocks and a 5-inch TFT, while the standard model keeps an LCD.911

    For 2015, look for the NMAX's rear disc; the PCX125 it faced uses a rear drum.24

  • Yamaha X-Max 125

    Bulkier body and a 15-inch front wheel; the compared PCX125 is smaller, with a 14-inch front.25
