How to spot one

Look for

  • Original 1978 Forte: four round headlights, a long nose and a low front air dam.2
  • Series 5: a curvy body, big chrome grille, bulging wheelarches and a small window area.15
  • 2019 Series 6: slim headlights, LED running lights and angular bumpers mark the Dynamic Shield nose.813
  • Global sixth generation: three L-shaped LED running lights sit above three-part headlights.1
  • Global sixth generation: T-shaped taillights frame the rear.1

Year by year

  1. 1993

The second-generation facelift introduces a different grille and new plastic bumpers.3

  2. Late 2001

Revised headlights distinguish the facelifted third generation.3

  3. 2015

Series 5 joins headlights and grille into one sweeping shape; the opening rear window gives way to a single fixed pane.621

  4. 2017

Warrior side steps switch from chrome to a muted silver finish.16

  5. 2019 (UK Series 6)

A heavy revision gains the Dynamic Shield nose, slimmer headlights, LED running lights and angular bumpers.813

  6. 2023 (global sixth generation)

The full redesign adds three L-shaped running lights above three-part headlights and T-shaped taillights.1

Don’t confuse it with

  • Fiat Fullback

Same basic body: Fiat badges, revised grille and headlights, less nose chrome and diamond-cut wheels on LX versions.315

  • Dodge Ram 50

1983 North American facelift: four rectangular headlights identify the Dodge; Mitsubishi uses single units.3
