The story

Launched for 2008, Rogue courted drivers in their early 30s who wanted utility and individuality. Its name signaled independence; the 2021 redesign added a new platform and a "family hub" cabin.34

  1. 2007

    2008 Rogue goes on sale

The 2008 Rogue arrived in September 2007 with a 170-hp 2.5-liter four, CVT and FWD or AWD; FWD was rated 22/27 mpg city/highway.3

  2. 2014

Seven seats and the first CMF platform

The 2014 redesign added optional seven-seat packaging and the first CMF platform. A revised CVT cut friction loss 40%; FWD highway economy was rated 33 mpg.5

  3. 2017

    First Rogue Hybrid: 176 hp

The 2017 Rogue Hybrid combined a 2.0-liter four and electric motor for 176 hp; SV and SL versions offered FWD or AWD.67

  4. 2018

ProPILOT Assist reaches the 2018 SL

Its Platinum Package added hands-on steering, acceleration and braking support for single-lane highways, tuned over about 200,000 U.S. test miles.8

  5. 2021

2021 redesign builds a family hub

A new platform supported a "family hub" cabin with rear doors opening nearly 90 degrees. Safety Shield 360 became standard across the lineup.49

  6. 2022

VC-Turbo: 201 hp from three cylinders

    VC-Turbo swapped a 2.5-liter four for a 1.5-liter turbo three. Platinum AWD hit 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, but 31 mpg highway trailed 2021's 32 mpg.610

  7. 2024

    First Nissan with Google built-in

The 2024 refresh changed both fascias and the V-motion grille. SL and Platinum gained Google built-in through a 12.3-inch touchscreen.11

  8. 2026

    Nissan's first U.S. plug-in hybrid

The 248-hp 2026 Plug-in Hybrid offered up to 38 EPA-estimated electric miles; its 0–60 mph time was estimated at 6.5–6.6 seconds.1213

  9. 2027

2027 Hybrid: motors alone drive the wheels

A 1.5-liter turbo engine acts only as a generator; two electric motors deliver 225 hp and standard AWD, without external charging.1415

How to spot one

Look for

  • 2021 redesign: floating-roof styling, with two-tone paint available.9
  • 2027 Hybrid: honeycomb grille and an optional LED rear light spanning the tailgate.15

Year by year

  1. 2011

Reshaped nose and grille, new spoilers, chrome door moldings and plate trim; the SL Package gains 18-inch alloys.19

  2. 2014

New bodywork with sharp lines, LED running lights and mirror-mounted turn signals.5

  3. 2017

V-motion grille, revised headlamps, new bumpers, boomerang LED taillights and chrome side strips; D-shaped steering wheel inside.7

  4. 2021

Split-level LED headlights, floating-roof styling and new two-tone paint; an electronic shifter opens storage under the center console.9

  5. 2024

New fascias, grille, inner taillights and satin badges; new 18-inch SV and 19-inch Platinum wheels, plus fresh cabin colors and trim.611

  6. 2027 Hybrid

Honeycomb grille and integrated LED headlights; optional full-width LED rear light. SR adds unique fascias, wheels and black accents.15

Don’t confuse it with

  • Nissan Rogue Sport

A separate model: the 2017 Rogue Sport is shorter and lower than the full Rogue.16

  • Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Check the Rogue badges: the 2026 Rogue Plug-in Hybrid shares the Outlander PHEV's body shape.13

  • Ford Escape

The 2021 Rogue resembles the Escape from behind; check its V-motion grille and split-level LED lights at the front.923
